Canoe trip on the Leyre river, 6km between Moustey and Saugnac (Landes), 9:45 am or 2:00 pm, subject to availability.

 

This trip starts on the Grande Leyre and lasts between 1h30 and 2h without too much paddling. 

 

Throughout the walk, you'll be under the gallery forest, enjoying an exceptional wilderness setting to discover the Leyre valley.

 

Progress

- Meeting place and time to be agreed in advance. The meeting point will not be at the base in Belin Beliet but either at the Pont de Moustey at 9.45am or at the Pont de Saugnac at 9.45am, depending on bookings.

- Briefing : 10 to 25 minutes depending on your level and knowledge of the environment.

 - Topics covered : positions on the canoe or kayak, use of the paddle, steering techniques, safety rules and respect for the environment, information on places of interest, landing sites and the special features of the Leyre.

- Descent : You'll embark at the Moustey bridge for a 6 km canoe trip down the Leyre. After 2 kilometers on the Grande Leyre, you'll reach its confluence with the Petite Leyre on your right. From this point on, you'll be on the Leyre (Eyre). After a total of 1h30 to 1h45 of leisurely cruising, you'll arrive at the Saugnac bridge. We'll be there from 11:30 a.m. to a maximum of 12:15 p.m. to take you back to your vehicles.

- Shuttle (only between 11.30am and 12.15pm for morning trip): when you arrive at the Saugnac bridge, we'll take you back to your vehicles (5-10 min drive). Shuttle between the arrival and the departure at 2:00 pm for the afternoon trip (then you'll finish at your car at the end of the trip).

-The boat (canoe or kayak)

Good to know

Attention in case of online booking, you will receive a total of 3 e-mails. Open the last one to access the final confirmation. 


 


Safety :


- Know how to swim and be more than 6 years old (there are no exceptions, even for children accompanied by their parents) according to the Order of 4 May 1995, 


- Keep the feet of the shoes closed for the duration of the descent,


- keep your life jacket on you,


- do not dive or jump in haste of the boat.       


Nature :


- Respect the fauna and flora (the Leyre is a river of the regional Natural Park of the Landes of Biscay protected),


- do not throw anything in the water or on the banks (if necessary we will provide you garbage bags),


- do not make a fire,


- respect the Other users of the river (fishermen, residents, other descenders...).     


Remember, the Leyre is part of the regional Natural Park of the Landes of Biscay, it is a place to preserve, to protect; Thus all forms of nuisance are to be avoided (this includes noise nuisances).        


Equipment to have (not supplied) :


- old closed shoes or slippers of river or surf or sandals,


- an outfit intended to dry quickly not holding too much water,


- a spare business,


- a wind cut,


- a hat or a cap as well as sunscreen for the sunniest days,


- a cord for glasses,


- a mosquito repellent,


- water and your picnic.
